A little bit about

Tourne County Park in Boonton, NJ

Tourne County Park is a general-purpose park comprised of 561 acres with 10.7 miles of trails. This park offers recreational opportunities throughout all seasons and is open daily Sunrise to Sunset throughout the year.

The Park Commission acquired its first parcel of land on July 24, 1958 and opened the park for public enjoyment in 1960. The name "Tourne" is derived from the Dutch word meaning "lookout" or "mountain."

It was originally surveyed by John Chapman in May 1715 and it's likely that the early surveying crew had cut bridle paths over the narrow footways made by earliest inhabitants of the nearby plantation, and current trails may follow those made more than 300 years ago by Native Americans.

What makes this park so appealing is a panoramic view of the New York City skyline at the top of the Tourne, Denture Rock and Mouse Cradle Rock, which is a glacial erratic resting on the southwestern summit of the Tourne and is balanced on two points of a ledge rock and a hidden wedge stone. This imposing 54-ton boulder was named by DeCamp in 1897, when he discovered a mouse nest in a cleft of the rock. Using hand tools and levers, DeCamp built two roads to the top of the Tourne and encouraged people to enjoy the forests and fields. He became one of the first conservationists in Morris County. During his lifetime, Clarence Addington DeCamp (1859-1948) inherited and acquired much of the land now known as Tourne County Park.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY

"Abella Studios couldn't have done a better job than what they did for us. We had a wonderful experience with our photographer during our engagement photo shoot and it was well worth the investment, I can't stop looking at them!"

"We had an amazing time during our photo session. Our photographer was very attentive & knowledgeable about poses & different spots for our shots. He gave great direction while also allowing us to make suggestions for poses too. The best part is you can book them based on what makes sense financially which is great because we were on a budget and they worked with us to give us the package that we wanted."

"It was a great decision having a professional photographer take photos before our wedding! Everyone told us that being photographed on the wedding day is stressful. Having our engagement session made both of us feel much more comfortable on our wedding day and we actually really enjoyed it!"
